A thief market!  A "thieves market!"  ...in Singapore?!?

Nobody would have thought that such  place exist in this highly developed country.  Or at least, I didn't.  Aside from being a global hub, Singapore is very known for strict rules and fines!  Everywhere you go, you see posters and stickers about fines!

With all these fines notices everywhere, how can a thief market prolifer.

The place is found in the streets of Sungei Road.  It stretches between Sungie Road, Pipit St, Kelantan Road, Pasar Lane, Weild Road and Jalan Besar.  It is one of the largest flea market in Singapore.  And I believe, one of the oldest as well.

History that this famous side-walk flea market was already in the area since 1930's.  And as per what my friends told me, it was really a theif market before.   But now no more.  Although it carries the same name until now.

Here is a location map of the place (at the right).  Just click on the picture below for a bigger view of the map.  Nearest train station is Bugis MRT Station.

There are a lot of things that you can see in the "Theif Market".  Old porcelain jars, vintage watches, talismans, cell phones, a lot of second hand clothes, dvd's, camera, collectible toys and a lot more.  If you know how to spot a real antique item, this place will be a great haven for you!

If a picture paints a thousand words, then the pictures below can tell you a thousand stories about this famous Thief Market in Singapore.

The ones who are selling the goods are mostly Uncles and Aunties who are trying to make a decent dollar.  They just camp and spread their goods along the sidewalks.

Customers comes from all sorts of nationalities.  You can spot Chinese, Americans, Malaysians, English, Europeans, Indians, Singaporeans, Asians, Arabs and many more.

And if you are planning to go to the thief market, you must learn some bargaining skills.  Ok!  If they sell at at  S$5, go for S$2!  When you get their, you'll know what I mean.  He-he-he!

:-)
